After recognizing a need for additional sports facilities and opportunities, the City of Gadsden and Gadsden State Community College created a joint venture to further develop the Coosa riverfront property owned by the Community College by creating a public sports complex and improving existing features. CDG was selected as the project’s lead engineering consultant and provided civil/site development services for constructing the multi-million-dollar sports complex.
Plans for the multi-phase project included the construction of three new NCAA regulation-size soccer fields with adjacent parking facilities, two concession facilities, and a half-mile walking path around the campus lake, as well as the reconstruction of four youth baseball/softball fields, adjacent parking facilities, and renovation of concession facilities. Currently, the project team is aiding in developing an ADA-compliant “Champions Field,” pickleball courts, concession and maintenance facilities, adjacent parking facilities, and walking paths throughout the park. In addition to civil engineering design services,
CDG has provided overall master planning, environmental studies (WOTUS, T&H, ESA), boundary and topographical surveying, geotechnical services, subsurface exploration, soil test borings, design of the athletic playing field and surfaces, construction administration, and construction and materials testing.
