23 May Recreation with a Purpose: CDG Charlotte Office Adopts Section of Irwin Creek for Stream Cleanup Initiative
The CDG Charlotte office is proud to announce its recent adoption of a 1-mile section of Irwin Creek through the City of Charlotte Stormwater Services Adopt-A-Stream Program. This initiative underscores our firm’s commitment to environmental stewardship, community service, and team building, providing an opportunity for CDG staff to actively contribute to the well-being of the branch office’s local ecosystem.
The Adopt-A-Stream Program is a valuable initiative that allows individuals and organizations to take ownership of a stream segment and commit to its maintenance. Participants in the program are responsible for removing litter from the stream, promoting environmental awareness, and enhancing the health of our waterways. This program not only teaches the importance of environmental stewardship but also serves as a fantastic team-building and community service activity that everyone can enjoy.
In the past fiscal year alone, over 1,500 volunteers have collectively removed more than 33,000 pounds of trash from streams within the community. Through this program, our Charlotte office is committed to performing a minimum of two cleanups per year for the next two years. The adopted section of Irwin Creek is conveniently located near our Charlotte office and downtown Charlotte, NC, benefitting both the local environment and the community.
During the Charlotte office’s first cleanup event, the team managed to collect 400 pounds of trash from the stream in just one afternoon. Additionally, the group conducted a water quality test for the City, contributing valuable data to ongoing environmental monitoring efforts. This event was not only productive but also enjoyable, embodying the spirit of recreation with a purpose.
